About the Club

We meet once a month in Takapuna. Our evenings generally start off with a quick runthrough of club business which takes about ten minutes, followed by magic being performed by our members.

We do not concentrate on "lessons" but instead encourage members to independently learn their own magic and bring items they're working on to meetings. This promotes independence and originality. We provide a friendly atmosphere to perform, experiment and ask like-minded people for advice.

The club periodically runs a "Shore Is Magic!" family comedy magic show. These are a series of public performances held in theatres in Auckland.

In December we award trophies to our most-improved magician and also to the club member who has performed the most at meetings throughout the year.

New members are welcome - if you have a serious interest in magic and wish to find out more about the Shore City Magicians Club get in contact with us for an invitation to attend.

Prospective members may attend three meetings, after which the executive committee may invite them to perform an initiation act for acceptance into the club. This is a performance of a minimum of three minutes and three tricks. Initiation acts serve as a demonstration of interest, motivation and competence. A vote is then taken by the club for acceptance into the club. Unless the executive committee decide to waive this restriction, the minimum age for joining the club is eleven years of age.

The annual club subscription is $25 for those under twenty, $35 to those above. This fee covers clubroom hire and running costs. SCMC Members also receive access to our club library and an invitation to magic lectures and events held in the area.
